Burj Khalifa wins CTBUH Global Icon Award

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat has conferred upon Burj Khalifa the "Global Icon Award" an award that is only given occasionally, when merited by an exceptional building.

Congratulations to the staff at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture that worked on the Burj Khalifa along with the building's chief designer, Adrian Smith, FAIA, RIBA, while at SOM. Those staff include: Peter Weismantle, Robert Forest, Alejandro Stochetti, Brad Wilkins, Vanessa Newton and Roger Frechette.

CTBUH said of the Burj Khalifa: "The CTBUH recognizes Burj Khalifa for the profound impact it has made, not only on its local and regional context, but on the genre of tall buildings globally. Innovative in planning, design and execution, it has influenced and reshaped the field of tall building architecture, engineering and urban planning."
