Carlo Parente on...

design
It allows one to engage/question/express contemporary conditions. Architecture as a discipline is intrinsically connected to the expression of contemporary conditions. Technology/environmental/performative design allows us to engage our own time.

where he finds inspiration
Contemporary culture and its impact on human endeavors—using this inspiration to see what possibilities that current technologies have to offer.

his favorite "moment" in architecture
Beginnings--the initial concept, the first brick laid, the first people to occupy a building. I really love buildings under construction, which I call "buildings in becoming." Buildings under construction represent the potential of built form at its purest moment—embodying the essence of beginnings.

his favorite city architecturally
Chicago. That's why I moved here. I love New York for its urbanity, but in Chicago there is a space between buildings—the river, the lake, the strength of open space—that makes this a city about architecture.

what he'd be if he weren't an architect
A cowboy.
