Tony Trifiletti on…

…design
It's about passion and ambition. I enjoy the excitement of creating something which doesn't need words, an art form which has to express itself—all by itself by using the earth, the sky, light and materials. By putting all these things together, I love the way architecture can provide you with a very powerful experience, and inspire just like a piece of very well-composed music.

…where he finds inspiration
In the middle of nowhere.

…his favorite "moment" in architecture
I could be here all day, but in particular it has to be the chapter of my life spent on The Broadgate Tower & 201 Bishopsgate in London. I'm thinking right back to when we were on the drawing boards in Chicago, seeing the building taking shape before me, walking across the finished works on site and, above all, knowing that the project will always be a major landmark in the city I grew up in.

…his favorite city architecturally
Chicago. Although the magic and inspiration I experience whenever spending time on the Isole Eolie off the coast of Sicily has always been important to me since I first traveled there to visit Sicilian relatives at a very early age.

…his favorite thing about a collaborative design process
Learning from other people, and the team spirit which is in the air from a group of people who share a common desire to make a building come alive.

…what he'd be if he weren't an architect
A ski instructor.

…what he does when he's not designing
Enjoying life. Eating.
