Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture Wins IIDA RED Award for Furniture Design
CHICAGO, April 8, 2014 - Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture is pleased to announce that they have won a IIDA RED Award for Furniture Design.
AS+GG's upcoming furniture collection was inspired by the need to apply the philosophy of performance and sustainability through design and materiality. The efficient use of materials and a careful attention to simple details create a timeless elegance, which allows the pieces to be used in various settings. The sculptural forms of AS+GG's architecture motivate the interiors team to create dynamic, architecturally-inspired pieces.
The GG Table initially came from a discussion with Partner Gordon Gill, who requested a beautiful yet versatile table. The final design allows for easy mobility around the table while maintaining a large footprint to maximize stability. The glass connection points increase stability while adding a graceful structural detail that also mimics a glass curtain wall. The tabletop is made from 1/2” low iron glass with a dramatic undercut bevel. The base is made from partially recycled aluminum with a satin finish and polished flat surfaces.
The GG Table is the first public piece in the new AS+GG Furniture collection but look for more exciting pieces in the near future.
