Luis Palacio

AS+GG Director Luis Palacio AIA, LEED AP, has 15 years of experience in the design and project development of cultural, residential, commercial, urban planning and mixed-use projects.

Focused on sustainable building design and sustainable communities, he believes in a holistic design approach where aesthetics and form are conceived from a unique set of variables such as program, location, climate, culture, rather than from a preconceived style.

Recently, Luis was the Senior Designer for the large-scale master planning effort, Tianfu New District Master Plan, which is now under construction in Chengdu, China. He also lead one of  the design teams for the expo precinct portion of the Astana Expo City 2017 project in Kazakhstan. Currently he is working on a new high-tech campus design for a former Studebaker manufacturing facility in South Bend, Indiana.

Prior to working at AS+GG, Luis earned a Master of Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago and worked at a number of international design firms.

Centerpiece for Expo2020 combines breathtaking design, innovative technology, and an intricate domed trellis incorporating a huge immersive projection experience. Foshan Airport Competition
Design creates a visual flow to unify the travel experience from the train station to the aircraft. As cars arrive at the curbside drop-off, a canopy extends above to welcome and shade departing travelers. As the traveler steps from their vehicle, they are greeted by the soaring glass walls of the terminal, a threshold that all travelers will pass through as they depart or arrive at Terminal 1 of Pearl River Delta Hub International Airport. Kingston Leadership Plaza
Designed as an open and inviting space to house the new police headquarters for approximately 2,000 police officers and administrative personnel. The plaza program provides community outreach facilities including a sports complex, community center, and outdoor areas for recreation. The various spaces can also be used for festivals and other community gatherings such as lectures, athletics, and educational programs, increasing the community’s comfortability with the police campus. Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center (Shimao Tower)
New tower at the center of AS+GG’s Shimao Shenzhen Longgang Master Plan is the main focal point for the development’s office and apartment buildings. At approximately 700 meters in height, the tower will be a visual, sound, and light show, reinforcing the district’s athletic and entertainment functions. The tower’s top has one of the world’s highest observation experiences and additional club facilities that include a restaurant, a night club, spa services, and a grand swimming pool, all with views of the city. Steppenwolf Theater Campus Expansion
Renovations and additions to existing structure for major Chicago theater company. The 50,000-square-foot building expansion will include an education center, a two-story atrium lobby, and a wine bar with a sidewalk lounge that will act as a gathering space where artists and audiences can mingle. Crown Sydney Hotel
Architectural competition entry for hotel and residential towers designed to reach a 5-Star ranking within the GreenStar performance category. The design’s sustainable strategies include optimized orientation, self-shading balconies and a high-performance facade. Overall, the design has a 60% reduction in emissions compared to similar developments. Sydney, Australia

Waterfront Tower
356,000 sf office tower adjacent to Vancouver’s transit hub, features semi-private courtyard amenity space and open plaza with unobstructed waterfront views. Amenities include conference facilities and fitness rooms. Vancouver, British Columbia

Zhongzhou Holdings Financial Center
Exterior wall design for a mixed-use development in Shenzhen’s Nanshan District that optimizes solar and wind mitigation.  The development includes a 300 m tower, 160m tower and conference facility.  Shenzhen, China

High Tech Park
Three research/factory towers ranging from 100 meters to 120 meters in height. Linked podium building features retail and restaurant space as well as a roof garden. Shenzhen, China

Wuhan Greenland Center

Tianfu New District Master Plan
Located 30 kilometers south of Chengdu, this new city plan considers unique features such as existing valleys, ridges and slopes and reinterprets them as parks, plazas, pedestrian streets and retail corridors. Developed guidelines for buildings that range from 5-story “podium” buildings, up to signature towers of over 300 meters. Chengdu, China
