Changsha Supertall Tower

Changsha Supertall Tower

Changsha Supertall Tower is a bold and elegant architectural form that balances efficiency, occupant comfort and sustainability; its graceful, formal simplicity will distinguish it from the other buildings in the Meixi Lake development.

Generated by four softly curving faces that are arranged in a square configuration, the building widens in profile as it rises and tapers towards its apex. Each face of the tower is broken down into a series of vertically staked V shaped facades that help accentuate the buildings vertically and create a connection with the natural form soft the hills the surround the site. This distinctive form responds to the constraints of the site: the building appears more slender than a rectangular block of equivalent size and the slimming of its profile towards the base maximizes the public realm at street level. Environmentally, its profile reduces wind deflections compared with a rectilinear tower of similar size, helping to maintain a comfortable environment at ground level and helps reduce vortex shedding.

The exterior façade system for the tower is a key aspect of the high-performance response of the building to the site and program. This meticulously designed and engineered system reduces heating and cooling loads, introduces daylight, reduces the occurrence of glare and improves thermal comfort for building occupants.

Office tower is 347 meters tall, 70 stories with a total area of approximately 127,000 sqm. The tower is organized into four office zones of between 13-15 floors on each floor and each floor can be reached directly from the ground floor lobby. To maximize the efficiency of the floor plates the vertical transportation system uses double decker elevators with a destination dispatch system. At the top of the building there is an executive club that has direct access from the ground floor via two shuttle elevators. There are three multi-level Mechanical floors in the tower and the basement has three full levels that contain retail, plant space, loading dock and parking as well as a mezzanine level for bicycles.

The interior architecture also uses natural forms as the principal form generator. While the spaces vary in use and scale, they create an inviting, comfortable, and warm experience.
