Sky Sail

Sky Sail

Sky Sail was designed to be a self-sustaining, integrated, and intelligent structure that combines optimal performance with aesthetic beauty. Design considerations included cultural and contextual inspiration, views, thermal comfort, daylighting, and wind behavior.

Like a sailboat pushed across the early morning water by a slow breeze, the tower tapers as it rises to meet the oncoming wind. The building was designed as a symbol of Suzhou’s relationship to the water, a testament to the new commercial and economic force amid the waters of the Yangtze River Delta.

The 718-meter-tall, 120-story mixed-use Sky Sail has approximately 350,000 square-meters of total gross floor area with 186,400 square-meters designated as office space on Levels 4-60; 70,500 square-meters reserved for apartment space on Levels 63-88; 44,500 square-meters of hotel space on Levels 91-113; and 6,500 square-meters of club and observation space on Levels 114-120.

The observation program occupies the highest levels of the building with the main observation floor at an impressive 564 meters and an upper observation platform at 600 meters.
