Melanie Skidmore on...

…design
As a non-architect, my knowledge of architecture varies wildly from that of my colleagues. I am still amazed when I see what started out as budgets and contracts become grace and beauty

…where she finds inspiration
Watching people go about the details of their everyday life. People are fascinating when one takes the time to really observe them

…her favorite "moment" in architecture
You might say my life literally started being surrounded by great architecture. My childhood was spent in a Mies van der Rohe building; the John Hancock building was my north star and was how I navigated the City growing up, and my first apartment as an adult was in a Bertrand Goldberg building

…her favorite city architecturally
Based on the above, how I could possibly answer anything else other than Chicago?

…her favorite thing about a collaborative design process
It’s fascinating to see how many disciplines have to come together to create a perfect building

…the accomplishment she's proudest of at AS+GG
I am passionate about accounting for every single dollar(whether it’s coming in or going out) on every single project

…what she'd be if she weren't in her current position
Without a doubt something in the culinary world; perhaps a chef or a restaurant critic

…what she does when she's not working
Cooking and baking, dining out, reading, and attending live music shows
