Architect – Entry Level

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG) is dedicated to the design of high-performance, energy-efficient and sustainable architecture on an international scale. Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a strong creative design portfolio along with strong verbal and written communication skills.  The individuals that we are seeking should be self-motivated and team players. Applicants should be proficient in REVIT, Rhino, Grasshopper, AutoCad, V-Ray/Maxwell, Adobe Creative Suite.  Knowledge of Environmental Simulation Analysis tools and Digital Fabrication Methods are valuable (but not required).  A professional degree is required, however our search will not be guided solely on years of experience.  AS+GG is looking for the right fit.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Registration/Accreditation:  LEED, IDP application recommended but not required

Education:  Minimum Bachelor of Architecture Degree, Bachelor of Science of Arts in Architecture

Interior Architect
Chicago, IL

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, LLP (AS+GG), and international award winning architecture, interiors and design firm, has current opportunities for Interior Architects. The ideal candidate will have 3 years work experience in a firm setting with a strong, creative design portfolio showing processes and presentation abilities, conceptualizing, diagramming, space planning and design. Strong graphic, written as well as verbal communication is a must. The individuals should be high energy, self-motivated and team oriented individuals able to collaborate or lead colleagues in high energy project situations. Sustainable/high Performance experience is a plus to round out this candidate.

Job Requirements:

Minimum of Bachelor of Architecture Degree, Bachelor of Sciences in Architecture. Applicants must be proficient in Revit, Rhino, AutoCad, Maxwell and Adobe Creative Suite. Grasshopper, environmental simulation analysis tools, and digital fabrication methods are valuable but not required. Applicants should also be strong in the knowledge of colors and materials research and specifications is required. Registration/Accreditation: LEED, IDP application is recommended.

Visualization Specialist

AS+GG is seeking a visualization specialist. The individual would be responsible for creating state of the art renderings, animations, multimedia, and overall presentation materials. This person will work in close collaboration with hte architectural design teams. The right candidate should have experience with software such as Rhino, AutoCAD, 3DMax, After Effects, Cinema 4D, and Premier. They should also have interest and experience in utilizing the latest digital technologies. Related work experience between 3 to 5 years is preferable.

Architectural Designer
Chicago, IL


Job Description:

With direction from the director and the project manager analyze client needs and utilize independent thinking to develop approaches in all phases of international and domestic large scale mixed use, retail, entertainment, high rise residential, cultural, and large scale commercial projects, including new construction, interiors, parking garage, unit plans,  and site planning;
participate in all phases of urban infill development projects, including urban design, mixed use regeneration, urban revitalization, urban planning, streetscapes, land use and transportation, and open space planning projects, from pre-design to all phases of projects, including initial concept development, space planning and programming, custom detailing and research for building codes and barrier free compliance; coordinate input from multiple partners, including local design institutes and consultants to translate into site and building plans; apply own judgment, analysis and computer skills to develop 3D building computer models and images, and presentation images; analyze sketches, photographs, notes, and other input material to determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve technical issues of design in relation to building structure, HVAC system, fire protection and materials for intricate detailing, client needs, sites and buildings, and utilize independent thinking and 2D/3D CAD and building information modeling programs, including Revit, AutoCAD, 3D Studio MAX/VIZ, VRay, Maxwell 3D, SketchUp, Rhino+Grasshopper, PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, and freehand sketching with markers and pencils to develop design concepts and refine them into design solutions, producing clear and compelling design presentations for design and concept development for projects and competitions requiring expedited concept development and document production; incorporate sustainable design principles and strategies into projects, participate in documentation and commissioning process, prepare 3D energy models to evaluate daily sun exposure, analyze heatloads, and maximize energy savings using Ecotect; build physical models using digital fabrication software, 3D printer, and laser cutter for design development and presentations; site survey of existing conditions and take as built measurements; prepare form optimization studies through radiation studies, daylighting studies, shadow analysis, glare reflection studies, daylighting comfort level studies; develop and produce construction documentation, including documenting architectural plans, elevations, and details in imperial or metric standards; participate in meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and public agencies on a given project and coordinate for client and agency review and approval; coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), lighting, landscape, code, traffic, parking, kitchen, zoning, signage, acoustic, security, curtain wall, façade maintenance, special systems, vertical transportation, and structural consultants to incorporate building systems into unified design; perform necessary modifications of drawings and specifications as construction projects progress and changes in dimensions, materials, and other aspects of design arise from client, agency or public input; manage project data and transmission and all electronic communications using project information management software Newforma; coordinate with local architects, consultants, contractors, and model makers for international projects; review and respond to contractor change orders; assist in establishing task schedule and manpower requirements consistent with the project agreement; assist in identifying weekly project requirements and projecting long term needs; review and approval of contractors submittals of shop drawings, product data and samples; assist in managing project consultant agreements; assist in identifying and quantifying tasks outside the scope of the Owner-Architect agreement for negotiation of additional services; develop existing and new clients; assist in developing office standards of Revit and Rhino+Grasshopper, investigating best practices to deal with complex geometries.

Job Requirements:   

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or foreign equivalent plus 2 years experience to include working on predesign and all phases of international and domestic large scale mixed use, retail, entertainment, high rise residential, and large scale commercial projects, including new construction, interiors, parking garage, unit plans, and site planning; performing space planning; custom detailing into designs; preparing space plans to program a facility based on an analysis of client space needs; researching domestic and international building codes and regulations, collecting data, and writing reports and presentations to incorporate research and data into architectural designs; analyzing sketches, photographs, notes, and site survey of existing conditions & other input material to determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve and coordinate technical issues of design in relation to building structure, HVAC system, fire protection and materials for intricate detailing; translating clients' functional and spatial requirements for structures into feasible design solutions, incorporating structural engineering principles and building systems into architectural designs; performing free hand sketching of perspectives, axonometrics, space plans, elevations, sections and details for presentations; design development and presentations using AutoCAD, Revit, InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator to communicate architectural design concepts; coordinating design development drawings with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), and structural consultants to incorporate engineering systems into architectural designs to produce construction documentation and secure client and regulatory approval; making corrections to in-progress sets of design development and construction documents; assisting in Fire, Life and Safety drawings, including calculating occupancy and analyzing egress strategy; reviewing and coordinating building structures including coordination of slab openings and shear wall openings with MEP systems.
