Peak performance: eco-friendly offices in Guangzhou

It's being billed as one of the most environmentally sustainable buildings in the world, and certainly it has all the right attributes. From solar collectors to wind-powered turbines, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill's Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou, China, should be an eco warrior's dream. All heating, cooling and ventilation eventualities are catered for by nature. 'The tower will absorb its environment and use it to its advantage,' says Gordon Gill. 'It is a high-performance instrument shaped by the sun and the wind.' Staff of the CNTC Guangdong Company are expecting to move into their new HQ in autumn 2009.
